The Power Ingredient For An Even Skin Tone

No matter the type of skin and color of skin we have, it’s safe to say that many of us struggle to achieve an even skin tone.  The reasons may be due to genetics, different levels of melanin, scars, acne, skin diseases… the list goes on.  There are many products being sold promising to even out and brighten our natural skin tone, but, using these products diligently can become pricey and tiresome.

There are quite a few natural ingredients that have brightening agents in them.  Most of these are in the actual food or spices we eat.  One natural ingredient that has produced many good results for many men and women is activated charcoal.

What is activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal is powder-based ingredient that is usually taken internally to remove harmful toxins from the digestive tract.  It’s a “go-to” for medicine and hospitals to relieve any intake of poisoning and overdoses.  In summary, it improves the intestinal health.

What does it do to the skin?

When used externally on the skin, it effectively removes the dead skin cells allowing the new, clean, even skin layers underneath to surface. Regular use of activated charcoal will combat inflammation, impurities and scarring.

Pros of activated charcoal:

  • removes dead skin
  • fades dark spots and areas, lightening your skin to its natural color
  • helps to lighten those tough-layered skin such as the underarms, knees and elbows
  • shrinks pore size to prevent impurities from entering
  • exfoliates the skin with its sand-like texture

How to make the activated charcoal mask

What you’ll need:

  • a glass bowl
  • activated charcoal
  • honey
  • a teaspoon
  • a shaded room!

Instructions:

  • put 2 heaved tablespoons of activated charcoal in a bowl
  • add 2 tablespoons of honey and fold the powder in.  Add more powder or honey if needed in order to form a smooth, but thick paste.
  • apply the paste to the skin using a tablespoon (or any method of your choice)
  • leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.  Dab off gently with a towel.
